LONDON FESTIVAL OF PHOTOGRAPHY – JUNE 2012

It’s here again. London Festival of Photography is taking over the whole city in June 2012. Eighteen exhibitions and forty events will take place in British Library, Tate Modern, V&A, Central Saint Martins and many other the most celebrated venues.

This year 50 000 expected attendees will have the chance to see Gaddafi photo archive, new work by Simon Roberts (worldwide exclusive), Steve Bloom (images not seen for over 25 years and opportunity to look at those unseen), Chris Steele-Perkins, Martin Parr and Jodi Bieber (to name the few).

Personally, I can’t wait to see work by Evgenia Arbugaeva and her “essay” from Tiksi on the Siberian coast of Russia. I’ll write all about her very soon :)

This year festival theme is INSIDE OUT: REFLECTIONS ON THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.
“Maintaining strong links to street photography, the ultimate reflection of public life, the 2012 theme will allow the festival to expand and explore the changing boundaries between the public and the private, as both physical and metaphorical concepts. Considering the role of photography as a tool for documentation, expression and collaboration, the festival will present work responding to the theme in its broadest interpretation.”

The upcoming Diamond Jubilee long weekend will open exhibitions, talks and workshops to the public. There will be also a rare opportunity for first ever UK masterclass with Jodi Bieber. “The workshop will explore ways for photographers to incorporate their personal vision and voice into their photographic work. Students will need to bring a porcolio or personal project (complete or in progress). Bieber will discuss her own photographic journey in context and explore individual possibiliHes through porcolio reviews of each photographer’s work. An assignment will be set for each photographer with guidance from Bieber to be completed and shared on the last day.”
